Sanctioned by the American Kennel Club

HISTORY AND CLUB INFORMATION

The San Luis Obispo Kennel Club has been offering community services and activities for 40 years, yet it remains the best-kept secret in town.

Established in 1961, the San Luis Obispo Kennel Club, which is sanctioned by the American Kennel Club (AKC), was created to support and encourage the proper care and breeding of purebred dogs, to help improve the genetic health of the various breeds while maintaining high breed standards, and to educate the public on a variety of canine issues.

The SLOKC Sponsors  supports the following:

  • Two AKC sanctioned Confirmation Dog Shows and Obedience Trials held at the Pao Robles Event Center in Paso Robles
  • A yearly AKC Sanctioned Dog and Puppy Match
  • Educational and enjoyable monthly meeting, frequently providing local speakers on dog related topics. Yearly barbeque and Christmas parties for the members.
  • Breed referrals and advice on buying the best dog for your family
  • Fund raising and donations to support spay/neuter programs in SLO County
  • Support of the SLO County’s first off-leash dog park

CODE OF ETHICS

  • To remember we are dealing with living creatures, not inanimate merchandise
  • To refrain from selling to pet shops, mail-order businesses or similar commercial enterprises; to refrain from selling or donating a dog as a raffle prize; to avoid any advertising that cheapens the purebred dog, such as trade-ins, clearance sales, bargains, gimmicks
  • To sell all pet-quality stock on spay/neuter agreements and/or limited registration and educate the buyer as to spay/neuter benefits
  • To increase our knowledge and use it to benefit our breed while maintaining high breed standards
  • To do all in our power to protect and advance the interests of purebred dogs
